Rental agreements, consent forms, declarations and joining letters often arrive as PDFs that need a signature. Instead of printing, signing and scanning, you can sign the PDF on your phone or computer. Docshar's Fill & Sign tool fills in form fields, and the PDF Editor's Signature tool places your signature anywhere on the page.
Docshar processes your file in your browser, so it is not uploaded to our servers. Files can be up to 10 MB each.
Step by step
- Open Fill & Sign. Go to Docshar Fill & Sign and choose your PDF.
- Fill in the form, if it has fields. If the PDF has fillable fields, Docshar lists them. Type your answers, then click Fill & download. Tick Lock the answers (flatten the form) if the answers should no longer be changeable.
- Open the PDF Editor to sign. If the PDF has no fields, click Open in PDF Editor to sign. If you just filled a form, click Edit in PDF Editor on the result.
- Create your signature. Choose the Signature tool (S). Draw it with your finger or mouse, Type your name in a handwriting font, or Upload a photo of your signature on white paper. Click Insert signature.
- Place it and download. Drag the signature onto the signature line, resize it, and click Download PDF.
Electronic signature or digital signature?
Docshar adds an image of your signature to the page. This is fine for many everyday documents, but it is not a certificate-based digital signature. Some processes, such as certain tax, company or tender filings, ask for a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) or Aadhaar-based eSign instead. If you are unsure what a document needs, ask the organisation that requested it.
Tips
- For an uploaded signature, sign with a dark pen on plain white paper and take the photo in good light. Docshar makes near-white pixels transparent and trims the empty margins.
- Use the Add text tool for the date and place next to your signature, and the checkmark tool for tick boxes.
- If the signed PDF must be under a size limit, run it through Compress afterwards.
- Never sign on behalf of someone else without their permission.

On the Fill & Sign page, "Fill with AI" can fill fields from a short description, such as your name and city. It sends only what you type and the field names to Google Gemini, after asking for your consent.
