Convert PDF to Excel

Convert PDF tables to Excel or CSV. Extract table data from PDF.

Drop your file here

Pull table data out of a PDF into a spreadsheet. Columns are worked out from where the text sits on each page, and the result is saved as Excel or CSV.

How to use PDF to Excel

  1. Choose or drop a PDF file.
  2. Under Format, pick Excel (.xlsx) or CSV.
  3. Click Convert to Excel.
  4. Download the spreadsheet.

What it does

  • Excel (.xlsx) output with one sheet per page
  • CSV output with all pages in one file, each page labelled
  • Columns detected from the position of the text
  • Numbers are stored as numbers, with currency symbols and thousands separators removed
  • Pages with no text are marked instead of being skipped

Good to know

  • Works best with clearly aligned tables; irregular layouts may put text in the wrong column.
  • Scanned PDFs have no text layer; run OCR first.
  • Cell formatting, merged cells and formulas are not recreated.

Your files and privacy

Table data is extracted inside your browser; the PDF is not uploaded to Docshar's server. If you are signed in, Docshar counts your operations (tool, number of files, sizes and page counts), never the file contents. See the Privacy Policy.

Questions

Should I choose Excel or CSV?

Choose Excel for one sheet per page. Choose CSV if you want every page in a single plain file, with a Page heading before each page's rows.

Why does a sheet say no text on this page?

That page has no selectable text, which usually means it is a scanned image. Run the OCR tool first, then convert again.

Are numbers kept as numbers?

Yes. Values that look like numbers, including ones with currency signs or commas, are stored as numeric cells so you can calculate with them.
