Split PDF Pages in Half

Split two-page layout scans: A3 to double A4, or A4 to double A5.

Cut every page of a PDF into two pages. This is useful for scans where two book pages were captured on one sheet, such as A3 to two A4 pages.

How to use Split Pages in Half

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Pick Vertical cut (left then right) or Horizontal cut (top then bottom).
  3. Turn on Right half first if the book reads right to left.
  4. Click Split pages in half and download the new PDF.

What it does

  • Vertical cut makes a left page and a right page from each page.
  • Horizontal cut makes a top page and a bottom page from each page.
  • Right half first option for right-to-left books.
  • Every page of the document is cut and the result is saved as one PDF.
  • Pages are not turned into images, so selectable text stays selectable.

Good to know

  • Every page is cut exactly through its middle. Pages that are already single pages, such as a cover, are cut too.
  • The cut works by changing the visible page area. The hidden half is not deleted from the file data.

Your files and privacy

The pages are cut in your browser and the PDF is not uploaded to Docshar's server. If you are signed in, Docshar counts your operations (tool, number of files, sizes and page counts), never the file contents. See the Privacy Policy.

Questions

Can I split A3 scans into A4 pages?

Yes. Use the vertical cut and each A3 landscape page becomes two A4-sized pages.

Do I get separate files for each half?

No. You get one PDF with twice as many pages, with the halves in reading order.

My book reads right to left. Can I change the order?

Yes. Turn on Right half first and the right half of each page comes before the left half.
