Turn a PDF into a Word document (.docx). Each page keeps its pictures, lines and colours as a background image, and the text is placed on top as ordinary, editable Word lines.

How to use PDF to Word

  1. Choose or drop a PDF file.
  2. Click Convert to Word.
  3. Download the .docx file and open it in Word or another word processor.

What it does

  • Output is a standard .docx file
  • Text stays editable as normal Word paragraphs, not text boxes
  • Pictures, lines and colours stay in place as a page background image
  • Keeps font size, bold, italic and text colour where the PDF provides them
  • Each page keeps its own page size
  • Common PDF fonts are mapped to Arial, Times New Roman or Courier New

Good to know

  • Scanned PDFs have no real text, so the result is pictures only; run OCR first to get editable text.
  • Graphics are not editable objects; they are part of a background image on each page.
  • Fonts are matched to similar Word fonts, so spacing may differ slightly from the PDF.

Your files and privacy

The PDF is converted to Word inside your browser and is not uploaded to Docshar's server. If you are signed in, Docshar counts your operations (tool, number of files, sizes and page counts), never the file contents. See the Privacy Policy.

Questions

Will I be able to edit the text in Word?

Yes. Text from the PDF becomes ordinary Word lines that you can edit. Images, lines and shading sit behind the text as a picture of the page.

Why does my Word file contain only images?

The PDF is probably a scan with no text layer. Run the OCR tool on it first, then convert the result to Word.

Does it convert tables into Word tables?

No. Table text is placed at the correct positions using indents and tab stops, and the table lines come from the background image, so they are not real Word tables.
