Create a PDF from a Microsoft Word .docx file. The text, headings, lists, tables and pictures are laid out on A4 or US Letter pages.

How to use Word to PDF

  1. Choose or drop a Word .docx file.
  2. Pick a Page size: A4 or US Letter.
  3. Click Convert to PDF.
  4. Download the PDF.

What it does

  • Reads .docx files
  • Keeps text, headings, lists, tables and pictures
  • A4 or US Letter page size
  • Page breaks are placed in blank space where possible so lines are not cut in half

Good to know

  • Only .docx is supported, not older .doc files.
  • Complex layouts such as text boxes, columns and headers are simplified, and the original fonts and spacing are not kept exactly.
  • PDF pages are images of the text, so the text cannot be selected or searched; run OCR afterwards if you need that.

Your files and privacy

The Word file is read and converted inside your browser and is not uploaded to Docshar's server. If you are signed in, Docshar counts your operations (tool, number of files, sizes and page counts), never the file contents. See the Privacy Policy.

Questions

Can I convert a .doc file?

No. Only .docx files are supported. Open the .doc in Word or another editor and save it as .docx first.

Can I select or search the text in the PDF?

Not directly, because the pages are created as images. Run the OCR tool on the PDF to add a searchable text layer.

Will it look exactly like my Word document?

The content is kept, but the layout is simplified and a standard font is used, so it will not match the original page for page.
