Alternate and Mix PDF Pages

Mix pages from 2 or more documents, alternating between them. Perfect for joining separately scanned front and back sides.

Drop your file here

Combine two or more PDFs by taking pages from each file in turn. This is useful when the front and back sides of a document were scanned separately.

How to use Alternate & Mix PDF

  1. Choose two or more PDF files.
  2. Put the files in the order they should take turns, and tick Reverse order for any file whose pages run backwards.
  3. Set how many pages to take from each file at a time.
  4. Click Mix pages and download mixed.pdf.

What it does

  • Alternates pages between two or more PDFs.
  • Set how many pages to take from each file per turn (for example 1 or 2).
  • Reverse the page order of any single file, which helps with back sides scanned last page first.
  • When one file runs out of pages, the remaining pages of the other files are still added.
  • Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable.

Good to know

  • Accepts PDF files only, not images.
  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.

Your files and privacy

Pages are mixed inside your browser; your PDFs are not uploaded to Docshar's server for processing. If you are signed in, Docshar counts your operations (tool, number of files, sizes and page counts), never the file contents. See the Privacy Policy.

Questions

How do I join front and back scans?

Add the file with the front sides first and the back sides second. If the back sides were scanned from the last page to the first, tick Reverse order on that file. Keep pages per turn at 1.

What happens if the files have different page counts?

Pages keep alternating until a file runs out. The leftover pages from the longer files are added at the end in turn.

How is this different from Merge?

Merge puts whole files one after another. Alternate and Mix takes pages from each file in turn.
