Click a line of text in your PDF and type to change it, or add new text boxes, images, shapes and a signature. The editor has a Word-style ribbon with fonts, lists, alignment, spacing and find and replace.

How to use PDF Editor

  1. Click Choose PDF or drop a PDF file on the page.
  2. Pick Edit text and click a line to change it, or double-click to edit the whole paragraph.
  3. Use the Home, Insert and Draw tabs to format text or add text boxes, pictures, shapes, a signature, highlights or whiteout.
  4. Click Download PDF to save the edited file.

What it does

  • Edit the PDF's own text line by line or as a whole paragraph that re-wraps as you type, and drag text to move it.
  • Edit words inside scanned pages and images: they are read with OCR (English, Hindi, or both) when you click them.
  • Word-style formatting: fonts, size, bold, italic, underline styles, strikethrough, colors, bullets and numbering, alignment, line and paragraph spacing, styles and format painter.
  • Find and replace across all pages, with undo and redo.
  • Insert text boxes, PNG or JPEG pictures, tables, links, rectangles, ovals, lines, arrows and checkmarks; draw with a pen, highlight, strike out or underline text.
  • Add a signature by drawing it, typing it or uploading a photo of it, with background removal.

Good to know

  • When you edit existing text, the old wording stays in the file under the new text. To remove text for good, use Whiteout with Redact turned on.
  • With Redact on, pages that have whiteouts are saved as images, so their text is no longer selectable.
  • If the PDF's own font cannot be reused for editing, a similar font from the built-in library is used instead.

Your files and privacy

Your PDF is opened and edited in your browser and is not uploaded to Docshar's server; OCR downloads its code and language data from a CDN but reads the page on your device, and only if you use the optional AI features are your request and the document text sent to Google Gemini, after you consent. If you are signed in, Docshar counts your operations (tool, number of files, sizes and page counts), never the file contents. See the Privacy Policy.

Questions

Can I edit text in a scanned PDF?

Yes. With the Edit text tool, click text on a scanned page or inside an image. The page is read with OCR in your browser and the recognized lines become editable text. Accuracy depends on the scan quality.

What is the difference between Whiteout and Redact?

Whiteout covers content with an opaque box, but the text underneath is still in the file. If you also turn on Redact, the text under your whiteouts is removed on download and those pages are saved as images.

Is the edited text real, selectable text?

Yes. Text you type or edit is written into the PDF as text, so it can be selected and searched. Pen strokes, highlights, lines, arrows and checkmarks are saved as images.

What do the AI features do?

Ask AI is optional. It can answer questions about the PDF, summarize it, make edits across the document with a preview, or rewrite selected text. It sends your request and the document text to Google Gemini, only after you agree to a consent prompt.
