Edit PDF Metadata

See and change the document properties of a PDF: title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer.

Drop your file here

See the document properties stored in a PDF and change or clear them. Many viewers show the title you set in the window or tab.

How to use Edit PDF Metadata

  1. Choose or drop your PDF file.
  2. Check the current properties: pages, created and modified dates, PDF version, title, author and more.
  3. Edit the title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer fields. Leave a field empty to remove it.
  4. Click Save properties and download the updated PDF.

What it does

  • Shows the page count, creation and modification dates, PDF version and current properties.
  • Edit title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer.
  • Empty fields are removed, so you can clear details such as the author.
  • Removes the old XMP metadata block when present so viewers show the new values.
  • With several files (batch processing on supported plans), filled-in fields are written to every file and empty fields keep each file's own value.
  • Sets the modification date to the time you save.

Good to know

  • Only the standard document properties are edited; other hidden data in the file is not removed.
  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.

Your files and privacy

Properties are read and changed in your browser, and the PDF is not uploaded to Docshar's server. If you are signed in, Docshar counts your operations (tool, number of files, sizes and page counts), never the file contents. See the Privacy Policy.

Questions

How do I remove the author from a PDF?

Clear the Author field and save. Empty fields are removed from the file's document properties.

Why was the XMP metadata removed?

Many viewers read the XMP block before the standard properties, which would hide your changes. Removing it makes viewers show the values you entered.

Can I set the same author on many files?

Yes, on plans with batch processing. Select several files, fill in Author, and only that field is changed in each file.
