How to merge PDF files into one

Combine several PDFs, and even photos, into a single PDF in the order you choose.

Published · Updated · By the Docshar team

Application portals often have a single upload box for "all documents", and some offices want one file instead of ten email attachments. Merging solves both: your marksheets, certificates, ID proof and photos go into one PDF, in the order you want. Docshar's Merge tool accepts PDF files and images (JPG, PNG, WEBP and GIF) in the same batch.

Docshar processes your file in your browser, so it is not uploaded to our servers. Files can be up to 10 MB each.

Step by step

  1. Open the Merge tool. Go to Docshar Merge.
  2. Add your files. Click Choose files and select two or more PDFs or images. You can select several at once, or add more later.
  3. Put them in order. Drag the files in the list, or use the up and down arrows next to each file, so they appear in the order you want in the final PDF. Use the cross to remove a file.
  4. Merge. Click Merge files. Docshar tells you how many pages the merged PDF has.
  5. Download. Click Download to save merged.pdf, or choose a next step such as Compress.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

How many PDFs can I merge at once?

You need at least two files. Without an account you can merge up to 3 files (20 MB in total), and up to 5 files with a free account. Paid passes allow more; see Pricing. Very large merges also depend on your device's memory.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Remove the password first with Unlock (only for files you are allowed to open), then merge.

Does merging reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, so text and images keep their original quality.

Can I merge on my phone?

Yes. Docshar works in mobile browsers such as Chrome and Safari. Pick files from your phone storage and tap Merge files.
