How to split a PDF into separate files

Cut one PDF into several smaller ones by page range, every page, or every few pages.

Published · By the Docshar team

Sometimes one PDF holds several things that need to go to different places: a scanned bundle with your 10th and 12th marksheets, a long report where only one chapter is needed, or a statement where each month should be its own file. Docshar's Split tool makes separate PDFs from one, without changing the quality of the pages.

Docshar processes your file in your browser, so it is not uploaded to our servers. Files can be up to 10 MB each.

Step by step

  1. Open the Split tool. Go to Docshar Split.
  2. Add your PDF. Click Choose file or drop it on the page.
  3. Choose a split mode. Pick Custom ranges (one file per range), Every page (one file per page) or Every N pages (equal-size parts).
  4. Enter the pages. For custom ranges, type them in Page ranges, separated by commas, for example 1-3, 4-6, 7-. "7-" means page 7 to the end. For equal parts, set Pages per file.
  5. Split and download. Click Split PDF. Download each file separately, or click Download all as ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

How do I take just one page out of a PDF?

Use Custom ranges and enter the page number, for example 4. Or use Extract Pages and click the page thumbnail.

Can I split a PDF into individual pages?

Yes. Choose "Every page" and you get one PDF per page, which you can download together as a ZIP file.

Is the original PDF changed?

No. Splitting creates new files; your original stays on your device unchanged.
